Summer Pool Days

The summer is upon us and one of my most favorite summer past times is hanging by the pool.

First things first, who doesn't hate swimsuit shopping?  This year I committed to the one-piece and I was quite happy with this option from Old Navy.  I didn't realize the "control max" meant Spanx-like but I can't say I minded.  It was just a little hard to get on the first few times but I did appreciate the extra suction.  The hot pink color and retro-inspired cut make this conservative silhouette more fun.  It is also nice to be able to move around more freely and not worry about losing your suit.  Holla one-piece!

It may be hard to see but this tunic from H&M is the perfect swimsuit cover-up.  The price is right and there is a color option for every swimsuit.  I personally own the zebra print.  The lightweight fabric is ideal for poolside lounging and beating the heat.  Such an easy, comfy piece as all cover-ups should be.

Neon Woven Hat + Old Navy Swimsuit

To complete my swimsuit look, a wide-brimmed hat (which is much cuter in-person) and of course a fancy beach bag.  I would never wear jewelry to the pool but this beaded tassel necklace from LOFT is just too perfect to not include.  I am also on the hunt for these super affordable flip-flops from Forever 21.

After a hot day at the pool, is there anything more refreshing than a good old wipe down of the sweat and chlorine that has accumulated on your face?  These towelettes are my new favorite. They are designed to cleanse and exfoliate leaving skin bright and fresh.  The scent is also refreshing.  Very necessary when I am over here sweating in my one-piece.

So I am ready for the pool!  Now I just need a day off and some sunshine.

CCTip:  Target has many cute and affordable hats perfect for shading your face from the sun.

On The CC Radar: Loft Necklaces

LOFT has a ton of cute stuff right now but I feel like they are truly shining in their necklace selection.

Loving Loft Necklaces

This is just a sampling of the cute stuff LOFT has in-store.  I love the tassel detail both in beads and yarn.  This season you will see a ton of tassels as they are a big trend in accessories and apparel.  If tassels on your clothing feel too hippie for you, then a necklace is the perfect place to test drive this trend.

So cute with a navy tank. What an unexpected combo...heart.

These prices are on the high side but LOFT tends to run lots of promotions that help lower their prices.  I will for sure keep an eye out for these to go on sale as I am really into the Fireball Wooden options.  I love a good wooden necklace.  Plus this one has rhinestones which I can never resist.

Gingham Kitten Heels

The other day CC Mommy shared with you her gingham style.

Today I am going to reveal a pair of shoes that have been hot on my radar for months.

One can't help but see how the ShoeMint Karen was inspired by the Miu Miu gingham slingbacks that were everywhere circa last year.

Although these Miu Mius would set you back well over $500, you cannot deny their versatility.  I mean look how cute they are with a pair of jeans?

So this is our point.  Not only is gingham a versatile fabric in general but it also makes for a highly versatile shoe.  A gingham kitten heel can be worn casual with jeans or dressed up with a pencil skirt.

Gingham Shoes // Casual
Gingham Shoes // Professional
Items same as above except H&M Pencil Skirt $23.

I love a shoe that works both casual and dressed-up.  All we have to do is change the bottom of each outfit and keep everything else the same and the shoe works in both cases.  That might build a strong argument for making an investment in the Miu Mius last year but I think these gingham kitten heels are a cute and affordable alternative.  Plus who wants to troll eBay for worn shoes?

I just wish the Karens really took the imitation is the most sincere form of flattery seriously and found a way to add those dang bows on the back.  They are darling.

CC Mommy Presents: Gingham Style

CC Mommy is back again and her timing couldn't be better.  Yesterday was the first really nice day that kind of had me thinking summer could almost be here.  And is there anymore perfect print for summer than gingham?

ginham style

One of the first items I bought when I found out I was pregnant was a red and white gingham print rug from Ikea.  I figured boy or girl the print was adorable and would make the perfect accent to the nursery.  Ten months later I still love the print and look for ways to incorporate it into my daughter's wardrobe.  Cute but not cutesy, gingham always makes a statement and looks great on both boys and girls.

Moms don't feel left out of the gingham style.  I found an adorable pair of gingham shorts from Old Navy (gingham is equally great for adults) that I plan on rocking this summer with a white sleeveless shirt and red wedges.  Yay summer!

If you are interested in gingham style for you or your child, now is the time stock-up as retailers are launching their summer collections which are full of gingham.

CC Not The Mama says...I enjoy Old Navy shorts because they have a longer inseam that I would imagine is critical for running around with youngin's.  Moms, am I right or am I right?

CC Mommy Tip:  Sign-up for emails from Carter's and Old Navy.  You will also receive emails from parent companies Gap and Osh Kosh.  Both retailers regularly offer at least 20% off in-stores and online.

Leaf Chic Look

Once again I have found myself wandering the hallowed halls of the Target store.

On said trip I came across this shirt that satiated my new found love for anything leaf print.

What I love about this blouse is, of course, the print.  I feel like leaves are the new floral.  I also love the color combo.  The mint paired with olive green is unusual and interesting.  In my opinion, this blouse looks more expensive and luxurious than its $23 price tag.

Target Lawn Shirt

A good print blouse is critical for Spring, especially of the garden variety, because its motif feels warm weather but the full-length sleeves provide warmth when the weather is still cool.  This blouse works back to shorts or jeans depending on the temperature.  In this case, I would love to see the mint/olive combo paired with white denim.  As much as I love this blouse with jeans, how cute would it be with white shorts too?

A few classic accessories mixed with some more glamorous pieces complete this leaf chic look. I have been cyberstalking these earrings for a few months now and am waiting for an extra coupon to make the investment.  We have seen the sunglasses and bag before and I have to say in-person, this bag looks a lot more expensive than its $33 price tag.  Plus it is so functional.  These adjustable belts from The Limited are my absolute favorite; loving the metallic gold option.  Last but not least, while I think you could dress this outfit up or down based on your footwear choice but I am sticking with my Target Lavada glittered sandals.

Dress In Birds

I am excited because a dress I had been wanting at Old Navy finally went on clearance.

Who doesn't like a dress with animals on it?  Clearly they are my jam.  This bird print is off the nest.  I also love the gauzy fabric woven with a fine metallic thread.  This and the fit and flare silhouette make this dress more sophisticated but still appropriate for a backyard barbecue or shower.  Can't wait to wear this summer!

Love the subtle sweetheart neckline.

My only gripe with Old Navy is this dress is $19 in-store but $34 online.  I get it but I hate that I can't rely on the website to let me know when something gets marked down.  As luck would have it, I went in for something else and happened to see three dresses left on the sale rack...one happened to be in my size.

Crisis averted.

Sequin Canvas Tote

I am really into casual tote bags.  They are perfect for lugging my junk around whether it's magazines to the pool or a change of shoes and lunch to work.

This bag does not photograph so hot but trust when I tell you in-person, it is fabulous.  Canvas bags are typically not this glamorous so I am really drawn to the sparkle mixed with matte canvas.  Plus there is an adorable matching wristlet to keep your small belongings contained. This tote would totally work with a great cover-up, embellished flat sandals and dramatic hat for maximum poolside glamour.

Or my more boring lifestyle as highlighted above.
